ADHD in children

ADHD in children

Do you suspect your child has ADHD? Does your child have trouble focusing? Does your kid have the wiggles? Do your child usually forgets to turn in his homework and only write half of his assignments? Or are these just ordinary childhood and teenage behaviors that your child would outgrow as he or she grows older?

It can be hard to distinguish between ADHD and normal ‘kid behavior.’ Only a qualified medical expert can examine and diagnose ADHD symptoms in children and make the correct diagnosis. ADHD symptoms may begin in early childhood and make life hard for young ones in school or at home. Children with ADHD have difficulty bonding with their parents, which further leads to a rift between the family members. Taking care of a child with ADHD is tiring and a mountainous task, but it will improve with the correct treatment.

Types of ADHD in Children

Typically, there are 3 subtypes of ADHD in children:

  1. Predominantly hyperactive: This type of ADHD is characterized by persistent restlessness and twitching. Children with ADHD cannot sit still and are always on the move, making hasty decisions, making decisions, or performing activities without thinking about the result.
  2. Predominantly inattentive: In this type, ADHD manifests itself as having trouble focusing, forgetting directions, and switching from one job to another without finishing any of them. Their attention span is very small and they divert away from the topics they are currently working on.
  3. Predominantly impulsive: Children with predominantly impulsive- ADHD talk over other people, have a "short temper," and are prone to accidents because of impulsivity.

Symptoms of ADHD in Children

The most common signs of ADHD to look out for in children are:

  • Inattentive: It's one of the primary signs of ADHD. Your child may struggle to pay attention to others, follow instructions, complete tasks, or maintain track of their belongings. They might be sensitive to daydreaming, and careless errors and might also avoid things that require attention, or they find uninteresting.
  • Hyperactivity: It is also one of the major signs of ADHD. The child is unable to sit calmly and may regularly be moving around and climbing on things, even indoors. They have a tendency to fidget, wriggle, or bounce when they are seated. You may also notice that they talk a lot and have issues playing quietly and listening to others.
  • Impulsivity:  You'll notice that your child can have trouble waiting patiently for their turn. They might skip ahead in line, speak over other people, or speak up before the teacher has finished asking a question.
